Car Shakes at High Speeds
2018 Chrysler Pacifica

Problem Description

My car shakes when I drive on the highway. When I am not driving fast it's okay but when I go over 60 miles an hour, It shakes like crazy.

Diagnosis

The issue described occurs specifically at higher speeds, indicating that the shaking is not present during low-speed driving or idling. This problem is often most noticeable when the vehicle surpasses a certain speed threshold, in this case, 60 miles per hour. The severity of the shaking can vary but typically worsens with increased speed. Warning signs may include a noticeable vibration felt through the steering wheel or the seat, which can affect the vehicle's overall performance and the comfort of the ride. This issue can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, increased tire wear, and potentially compromise the vehicle's safety if not addressed.

The likely root cause of this issue could be related to the vehicle's wheel balancing, alignment, or suspension components. Properly balanced wheels are crucial for smooth driving conditions, and any imbalance can cause the vehicle to shake. Similarly, misalignment of the wheels can lead to uneven tire wear and shaking at high speeds. Suspension components, including shocks, struts, and bushings, are designed to absorb road shock. If these components are worn or damaged, they can contribute to the vehicle shaking. Ignoring these issues can lead to further damage to the vehicle's tires, suspension system, and potentially affect the steering mechanism, making it unsafe to drive at high speeds.

Potential Solutions

Wheel Balancing and Alignment

Symptoms:
  • •Vibration felt in the steering wheel at high speeds
  • •Uneven tire wear indicating misalignment
  • •Vehicle pulls to one side while driving
Steps to Fix:
  1. 1.Schedule an appointment with a reputable tire or auto repair shop
  2. 2.Have the technician check the balance of all four wheels
