There’s a loud squealing noise coming from the front wheels every time I press the brakes, and it’s been getting more high-pitched over the past few days.
The described issue of a loud squealing noise emanating from the front wheels upon braking, which has been increasing in pitch over recent days, is a common symptom of worn brake pads. This noise typically occurs when the brake pads have diminished to a point where the wear indicators (small metal tabs designed to make noise when contacting the rotor) are in direct contact with the brake rotors. The frequency and severity of the noise can increase as the brake pads wear down further, potentially affecting braking performance by reducing the effectiveness of the brakes, increasing stopping distances, and in severe cases, leading to brake failure.
The root cause of this issue is the natural wear and tear of the brake pads, a critical component of the vehicle's braking system. Brake pads are designed to create friction with the brake rotors, allowing the vehicle to slow down or stop. Over time, this friction material wears down, and once it reaches a critical thickness, the wear indicators are exposed and begin to squeal against the rotors. Ignoring this warning sign can lead to damage to the brake rotors, requiring more expensive repairs, and significantly compromise vehicle safety by impairing braking efficiency.
